RALLY AGAINST MCJOBS IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Wednesday, December 3 - TORONTO, Ont.
CUPE 3903 will join with unions and community groups to rally against the growing casualization of teaching jobs in the post-secondary sector on Wednesday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, 900 Bay St.
“We are fighting against the widespread casualization of educational work at York University and at colleges and universities across Ontario,” says Maria Wallis, contract faculty at York.
Nine hundred non-permanent professors - or contract faculty - are among the members of CUPE 3903 who have been on strike for job security and decent wages and benefits since November 6.
“If public funds are not actually going into the public good they are meant for - in this case, the university classroom - there is serious cause for concern for the general public and the government,” Wallis adds.
“Many contract profs have to teach at multiple universities and colleges, making it difficult for students to get face time with their instructors. This is a recipe for fast food education,” says Dan Crow, a contract professor at Brock University
