The Ontario Ministry of Labour’s supervised vote on York University’s substandard and concessionary contract offer will take place on January 19th and 20th at the NoVote(l) Hotel.  This deal takes us in the wrong direction: It will institutionalize casualized teaching at York and take opportunities away from Contract Faculty. It will not redress graduate underfunding for TAs, GAs and RAs. The CUPE 3903 Bargaining Team and Executive are urging all members in all three units to SAY NO to the rollbacks at the heart of this deal. For details click here.

YORK’S DELAY HOLDS STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC HOSTAGE

Why is the date so late? Beats us. These dates were requested by the University, NOT the union, as another ploy to avoid negotiations, waste precious bargaining time, and put maximum pressure on our membership, undergraduate students and the public. It was definitely not our idea.

The CUPE 3903 Executive asked the Ministry to schedule the vote as soon as possible this week, so we could get back to the bargaining table, get a fair settlement that protects the quality and accessibility of education at York, and get back to work and back to class ASAP. Our request was denied. This delaying tactic by the University Administration shows, once again, that York is the party “holding students hostage”  … not TAs, Contract Faculty or Graduate / Research Assistants.

CUPE 3903 members: On January 19 and 20, 2009, let them know we didn’t spend three months standing in the cold, withstanding the pressure, putting up with insults and injury for nothing. Strike to win -  picket to win – rally to win – occupy to win - vote to win!

STOP THE ROLLBACKS - VOTE NO at the NoVote(l)!
